Demo Day: Showcasing Black Innovation in STEM

June 3, 2023

Demo Day was an opportunity for the first ever graduates of the Nobellum Innovator Program to showcase the growth of their innovative business ideas and connect with potential investors, partners, and customers. We celebrated our graduating Cohort of Innovators and recognized the one-year anniversary of our program. At this event, we provided an opportunity for our graduating Innovators to win additional award prizes and pitch their startups, utilizing the knowledge and skills they had gained throughout their time in our program.

This event featured two panels:

  • “Founders and Funders”, featuring Malcolm Wright (Co-Founder and Director of Operations), Craig Wellington (Executive Director, Black Opportunity Fund), Efosa Obano (Program Manager, Black Founders Network - U of T), TIna Mbachu (Sr. Program Lead, Black Innovation programs, DMZ Black Innovations Program), Doug Minter (Sr. Project Manager, Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce), and Olusegun Villasa (Program Manager, Black Entrepeneurship Alliance, York University)

  • “Fundraising and Allyship”, featuring Melisa Ellis (Founder and CEO, Nobellum), Kristen Marumoto (General Manager, Spark Angels), Mike Orr (Co-Founder, Grapevine6), Dr. Georgette Zinaty (Founder, WHEW! And Executive Vice President, Corporate Class Inc.), and Elena Pikulina (Associate, Relay Ventures)

Attendees had the opportunity to network with these exceptional leaders, connect with our Innovators, and gain insight into how they can apply to be in our next cohort.

Congratulations to our 2022 Cohort of Innovators:
